No one is surprised that Barack Obama is ready and willing to tell Evangelicals to be more like him.
I remember back when Barack Obama “changed his mind” about homosexual marriage—that is, he found it politically expedient to admit openly to the agenda he had planned from the beginning. It was amazing to see the reaction from homosexuals. They spoke like Roman Catholics who had just been touched by the Pope. Somehow, Obama’s good opinion of them and their “unions” was a source of life and peace. The entire premise of the good feeling could only be that the President was the representation of the Divine Will.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Barack Obama shares that view. It would explain how he, as President, is so comfortable passing himself off as a teacher in the Christian Church.
Lifesite News reports, “Obama: Churches should stop focusing so much on protecting life and marriage.”
Basing his comments on “my own Christian faith,” President Obama told the Catholic-Evangelical Leadership Summit that churches should spend less time focusing on abortion and same-sex “marriage.”
During a panel discussion on poverty at Georgetown University last Tuesday, Obama criticized churches for how they engage politically, focusing on “divisive issues” such as protecting life and preserving marriage.
The president said, “When it comes to what are you really going to the mat for, what’s the defining issue, when you’re talking in your congregations, what’s the thing that is really going to capture the essence of who we are as Christians, or as Catholics, or what have you, [poverty] is oftentimes viewed as a ‘nice to have’ relative to an issue like abortion.”
[…]
In contrast, the president argued last week that churches would gain more followers if they embraced the “powerful” idea of helping those in poverty. “I think it would be powerful for our faith-based organizations to speak out on [poverty] in a more forceful fashion,” he said.
The president also said that advocating the redistribution of wealth is “vital to following what Jesus Christ, our Savior, talked about.”
So abortion and the humanity of preborn infants is “above” President Obama’s “pay grade,” but he has the competence and authority to tell the Christian Church what to believe and what to practice.
The Lifesite article mentions Hillary Clinton’s promise to change religious belief to make abortion acceptable as a context for Barack Obama’s remarks. But we also have Joe Biden recently claiming that “religious condemnation” counts as a violation of homosexual and “transgender” rights.
Obama is also showing the same stupidity that we heard from Howard Dean, saying that Jesus was probably to the left of the Democrat Party.
Finally, Obama’s remarks presume that the Church shows more commitment to abortion and homosexuality than helping the poor. This is a popular belief among Liberals but it is a delusion.
